KINGS HIGHWAY RESIDENCES
The two residences located on West Kings Highway were designed with a sleek, contemporary approach to the traditional character of the Beacon Hill neighborhood conservation district. The presentation of the houses seeks to celebrate the façade and character of the building, encourage engagement with neighbors. The homes feature elements of the Arts and Crafts style, with wide door and window trim, exposed wood awning brackets, a front porch, a large covered patio in the rear, and built-in interior elements, including a fireplace, which represented “the family” in the Arts and Crafts movement. Despite the small size of the residences, the houses feature an open living space configuration reminiscent of movement’s rejection small confined spaces like those typical in Victorian houses.
